You have a meeting scheduled with an employer, congrats! You’ve made it to the interview portion of the job application process. This section of the process is nothing to be intimidated by, but rather to be excited for. This is your opportunity to demonstrate to the employer that you are a motivated, passionate and skilled individual that would be a great addition to their team.
First Impressions
First impressions are everything and in an interview that is certainly the case. The first thing you need to ensure is that you’re there on time and prepared for your interview. Being confident with your job interview preparation will help ease the anxiety and nervousness. A first impression is also based on your appearance and whether or not you fit the appropriate attire of the office, floor, studio, etc. An employer will take notice in your efforts to match the attire of the business you are applying to work for.
Rehearse potential interview questions
Going back to preparation, there are many ways to prepare for a job interview and the job type will depend on that the most. But one common way to ensure that you are ready for the interview is to practice common interview questions. Ensure you’ve researched information about the business and could answer questions like; what makes you want to be a part of this company? Or, how does this company align with your passions and career goals? Be able to talk about how well your qualifications relate to the specific position you’re interviewing for and give experiences of how. Another type of question that is important to practice are questions asking you to respond with how you would handle or deal with specific situations if you were in the position.
Not only is it important to rehearse your responses to some of their potential questions, but it is also very useful to have a handful of questions prepared to ask them. They will see your interest to learn more about the functionality of the position and how you might fit in.
Bring additional copies of your resume
Sometimes, there is more than one interviewer. It is best to bring 3-4 copies of your resume and any references you have. That way, if there is more than one person interviewing you, you have copies for all of them. This is another way to ensure that the company will see your effort and interest in their position.
